CAPE MAY — Two book signings will take place during Harbor Fest June 14 – an annual celebration of Cape May Harbor and its impact on our local economy, culture and recreation.
From 2 – 4 p.m. at the Nature Center of Cape May, 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, New Jersey’s own native son Doug Campbell will sign copies of the book he recently co-authored called, “Rescue of the Bounty.” It is the story of the historic square rigged ship the “Bounty” of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, which was a victim of Hurricane Sandy in 2012 when she foundered off our coast with the loss of two crew members including the Captain and Fletcher Christian’s great-great-great-great granddaughter. If you’re a person who loves storms, the sea and true mystery, this is an opportunity you will not want to miss.
A second book signing will also take place from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Nature Center with local teacher and freelance writer for the Cape May County Herald, Carolyn Miller, author of “Counting the Fish in the Sea.” This non-fiction book for children ages 8 -12 tells the true story of how researchers from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science tackle what might seem an impossible task – counting the fish in the sea. It explains how a NEAMAP (Northeast Atlantic Monitoring and Assessment Program) trawl is conducted and how scientists sort, count, and analyze the fish. Each page is accented with actual photographs depicting the exciting moments of a research cruise. The book is now available at the Cape May County Zoo, The Book Shop in Stone Harbor, Nature Center of Cape May, and on the www.epektales.com website.
Harbor Fest will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 14 (rain date June 15) along Delaware Avenue in Cape May with lots of free fun things for the kids to do at an surrounding the Nature Center including games, crafts, a corn hole tournament, Coastie Corner and a surprise visit from a vacationing Santa Claus!
