OCEAN CITY – Former Philadelphia Flyer, Bob Kelly, a member of the famous Broad Street Bullies, will be a special guest in this resort’s Night in Venice Boat Parade, Sat., July 24.
Capt. Noah will be grand marshal of the parade. Capt Noah, television personality well known to generations of children who sent drawings to him in hopes of seeing them on TV, should feel right at home on the water during the resort’s special night.
Kelly, selected in 1970 by the Flyers, was an aggressive left-winger who helped guide the Flyers to their two consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1974-1975. His hard playing nature earned him the nick name of “Houndog.”
Along with teammate, Dave Schultz, he was one of the team’s top enforcers.
Kelly scored the 1975 cup winning goal at 11 seconds into the 3rd period of game six. With a tremendous effort he stole the puck behind the Sabres’ net and was able to slide the puck under goalie Roger Crozier.
Kelly played with the Flyers until the 1979-80 NHL season when he was traded to the Washington Capitols. He played with the Capitols until the middle of the 1981-’82 season.
Kelly is now the Flyers’ Ambassador of Hockey. Prior to the Parade, he will be at the Bayside Center, 525 Bay Ave., signing autographs and distributing Flyer’s souvenirs starting 5:30 p.m.
Grandstand viewing of the Parade will be available from the Bayside Center. There will be music by the Good Tymes Band and games for children. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children. Tickets are available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., call
