AVALON — The spirit of the holiday season comes alive in Avalon on Fri., Nov. 26th as the Borough holds a community-wide “Festive Friday” event during the day, and Avalon’s most popular family event, the annual Tree Lighting ceremony, later in the evening.
The Borough of Avalon and the 7MBCA have developed more than 40 activities throughout the day that will lead up to the Avalon Tree Lighting ceremony, which begins at 5 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, located at 21st Street and Dune Drive in Avalon. Mayor Pagliughi and Santa will light the Avalon holiday tree, and children will have their photographs taken with Santa at the plaza. All of the photos will be available for free downloading and printing from the Borough’s website, www.avalonboro.org.
The Avalon Tree Lighting ceremony will also feature plenty of live music. The Atlantic Brass Band will play from 4:00-5:00pm at the plaza, followed by the Special Occasion Barbershop Quartet. There will also be a face painter, balloon artist, magician, and trackless train to entertain the children.
The United States Marine Corps will be on hand to collect toys for “Toys for Tots”, and the Avalon Lions Club will be selling special glow in the dark necklaces for the children.
For the second consecutive year, the Borough will be selling the very popular holiday beach tags for the 2011 beach season. The tags will be on sale at the Avalon Rescue Squad at 31st Street and Dune Drive from 11:00am-4:00pm, and at Veterans Plaza from 4:00-7:00pm. The beach tags cost $20, and a decorative box is included. There is a limited supply of the holiday beach tags, and they will be sold on a first come, first served basis with cash and checks accepted for payment.
If there are any tags available after the Tree Lighting, they will be on sale at the Avalon Tax Collector’s Office, located inside Avalon Borough Hall, weekdays from 8:15am-4:15pm.
The 7MBCA’s “Festive Friday” event is coordinated with the cooperation of the Avalon Department of Recreation. Activities and events begin at 11:00am in Avalon’s business district and include music, activities, recreation, hospitality, and more. All of the activities are posted on Avalon’s official website, www.avalonboro.org.
In the event of inclement weather, many of the events will be moved to Avalon Community Hall. The special events for “Festive Friday” will be along Dune Drive between 20th and 33td streets, and along 21st Street.
