CAPE MAY – For 40 years, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) has made the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate a “must see” destination for visitors to Cape May, providing a glimpse into Cape May’s Victorian history as well as an outstanding educational experience for local school children. The public is invited to help enhance this jewel of Victoriana and expand its outreach by joining the newly formed Friends of the Physick Estate at its first informational meeting at the Carriage House Tearoom & Café, located on the grounds of the Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., on Monday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.
At the meeting, Elan Zingman-Leith, MAC’s Curator, will discuss MAC’s great accomplishments in the preservation of the Physick Estate, its artifacts and its educational value. MAC’s Museum Educators, who are experienced interpreters specially trained to work with students, will present a sample of one its popular programs, “Meet the Physicks.” Future projects, possible programs, membership and the mission of the “Friends of the Physick Estate” will also be discussed at the meeting. Admission to this informative meeting is free. Light refreshments will be provided.
MAC was formed in September, 1970 by a small group of Cape May citizens with the express purpose of rescuing the Emlen Physick Estate, an 18 room mansion, from demolition. Since then, MAC has secured its position as Cape May’s leader in historic preservation and is committed to the ongoing preservation and restoration efforts of Cape May area historic sites for present and future generations, so that they may discover the area’s important and rich history.
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Cape May’s heritage. MAC also fosters the performing arts and membership is open to all.
