The Wildwoods will be rock’n and rollin’ during the Fabulous ‘50s Weekend, Oct. 16-18 presented by the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Wildwoods Doo Wop Preservation League and the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority.
The island-wide, three-day celebration will pay tribute to the 1950s decade and will highlight the island’s role in the birth of Rock ‘N’ Roll music as well as showcase the island’s rich mid-20th century heritage. The Wildwoods has one of the largest collections of preserved mid-century “Doo-Wop” architecture in the country so it is the prefect place to come and celebrate the ‘50s culture.
The weekend is jam packed with activities that are sure to entertain the entire family. Come and experience the dance party at the Record Hop, then check out the free Street Fair featuring live music, contests, classic cars, tours, exhibits, memorabilia, as well as a variety of merchandise and food vendors on hand. And don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the spectacular concert Saturday night featuring Dick Fox’s Golden Boys, starring Frankie Avalon, Fabian, and Bobby Rydell.
The fun begins Friday evening at the Wildwoods Convention Center with a bona fide Record Hop featuring the “Geater with the Heater,” Jerry Blavat who is guaranteed to get everyone moving and grooving to the oldies. Doors open at 6 p.m., dancing from 7-11 p.m.
On Saturday, start the day off by trying your luck with a game or two of Bingo at the American Legion Hall, 4200 Atlantic Ave. from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Doors open at 8 a.m.
Spend Saturday afternoon outdoors at the Street Fair taking place at Fox Park located across from the Wildwoods Convention Center on Ocean Avenue from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The street fair will have live entertainment featuring Shake Rattle & Soul and Remember The ‘50s: A Tribute to the Drifters, The Platters and The Corvettes.
