COURT HOUSE – The children at the Early Education Center at Cape Regional will be holding their 2nd annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Wednesday, July 27th from 11:30 am -1:30 pm in the East Lobby of the Medical Center. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation evolved from a young cancer patient’s front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer.
Since Alexandria “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) set up her front yard stand at the age of four, more than $25 million has been raised towards fulfilling her dream of finding a cure for childhood cancer.
“The children will be making and selling lemonade in memory of Alex and honoring our own student, Brett Staino who is in Pre II and was diagnosed with Stage 3 Wilm’s Tumor, a form of pediatric cancer in March, 2008,” stated Anne Goodman, Director of the Early Education Center. “After surgery and months of radical treatment, Brett returned to class in early 2009 and is enjoying being an active preschooler. Brett still faces a long road ahead of him, and he will continue with testing and monitoring until the age of 8.” The Staino Family has been very active in raising money for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Brendan Borek Foundation, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation as a way to give back to everyone who has helped them during this difficult time.
During the week of July 25th, the children will be busy building their lemonade stand, and learning about helping others with the highlight being selling lemonade on Wednesday, July 27th. Please come out and support this great cause! Donations can also be made online by logging in to http://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/73913 or text “LEMONADE E73913” to 85944 to make a $10 donation.
