OCEAN CITY – Ocean City’s 3rd Annual “Earlier than the Bird” Shopping Extravaganza should prove once again to be a ton of fun as shoppers come out in the early morning hours to snatch up bargains – the weekend before Thanksgiving, Sat., Nov. 19.
Shoppers truly come out early, hitting the streets by 7 a.m. to gobble up the savings at the Downtown’s 100 shops from 6th to 11th Street along Asbury Avenue. The theme of the shopping day is to “Not be a turkey and get out earlier than the bird and gobble up the savings!” The weekend before Thanksgiving allows for fun and festive shopping in a more relaxed atmosphere – literally, as many shoppers get into the spirit and shop in their pajamas.
The Downtown gives away over 30 turkeys to shoppers deemed to have the best pajamas – and the merchants get in on the act as well and work in their pajamas for the day. Aside from the great deals from 7 a.m. – noon, the Downtown also offers free coffee, giveaways and shoppers can sign up in the stores to win $25 Downtown gift certificates ($500 worth).
The weekend also kicks off the free weekend events in Downtown Ocean City, held every weekend – including free horse and carriage rides (noon – 3 p.m. at 9th & Asbury), free face painters, balloon sculptures and more. New this year, the Downtown will offer Friday evening Hospitality Nights from Dec. 2 – 23 from 5-8 p.m., including evening shopping specials, entertainment, free horse and carriage rides, Santa and more!
Shown in their pajamas at the new location of Gabrielle & Co., 715 Asbury, are store owner Julie Gunn and her granddaughters, Monica and Mia – sporting matching pajama’s – plus Barbara Rash & Bev Farrell from Artisan’s Alcove, 714 Asbury, and Marcia Shallcross, Executive Director of the Downtown. All the robes and pajama’s can be purchased at Gabrielle & Co. and the festive hats from Kathy’s of Ocean City, 709 Asbury.
