Designer Show House to Open June 21

By Press Release

A beautiful, Neo-Victorian home has newly arisen in Cape May, N.J. After a year’s hiatus, Cape May’s Designer Show House returns in 2013 for its eighth year with an exciting project that has majestically transformed the streetscape.
The Cavalier Cottage, at 1109 Washington Street, opens its doors to the public on Friday, June 21 as the 2013 Cape May Designer Show House, presented by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) and sponsored by South Jersey House & Home magazine.
Nestled on tree-lined Washington Street directly across from the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, the design of the Cavalier Cottage is reminiscent of the Southern Mansion or the Mainstay Inn on a more intimate scale. The 2,800-square-foot home features a 900-square-foot wrap-around porch, as well as a cupola gracing the low-pitched roof. In the Italianate style popular in the 1850s-’70s, the house features overhanging eaves with oversized brackets and a gracefully pillared veranda, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by. A custom-made, double mahogany door welcomes visitors to come in and stay awhile. Inside, a cozy home office overlooks Washington Street, and a spacious family room invites visitors with a fireplace for chilly nights. Outfitted with the latest in appliances, the kitchen will showcase off-white wood cabinetry, a warm wood kitchen island and a beautiful bay window over¬looking the back yard gardens. A generous space is shared by the dining area and for¬mal parlor. A sunroom lets in light and a view of the beautiful plant¬ings in the side yard, with plenty of windows to bring the outdoors in. A spacious master suite and two additional bedrooms and bath await on the second floor.
Discover this beautiful family retreat with daily tours from June 21 through Oct. 31.
