Dennis Township Dedicates Hockey Rink

By Press Release

DENNISVILLE — In September 2010, Michael Fisher passed away at the Dennis Township hockey rink while participating in a youth hockey practice after suffering heart failure as a result of a congenital heart condition. The local youth was active in sports and a well-liked member of the Dennis Township community. On June 2, 2013, his parents, Dan and Tina Nees, saw the culmination of a dream come true as the same rink was dedicated as the Michael Fisher Memorial Hockey Rink. A host of elected officials and many members of the community turned out to witness the dedication.
“Dan and Tina Nees and Michael’s younger brother Mason chose to grow stronger,” said Dennis Township Mayor Gene Glembocki. “They chose to turn tragedy into triumph. They started the Michael Fisher Foundation to raise awareness of congenital heart defects and to raise money for scholarships, research and charity. Part of that vision to keep Michael’s memory alive and help with that education process was to name this rink in Michael’s honor. Today is not just about putting a name on the rink. It is about honoring the memory of a member of our community who will be forever young and full of promise.”
