Exercise and More at the Cape May County Library!
COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Library holds a variety of programs each month including on-going exercise classes such as Zumba and Yoga, cooking classes, nature, gardening and birding lectures and classes, computer and language classes and more. County Library Offers Aerobic Fitness Classes
The Cape May County Library is pleased to offer “Express Workout” aerobic fitness classes this fall. Starting October 18th, the classes will take place on Mondays at 4:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the library located at 30 Mechanic St. in Cape May Court House. Benefit from this fun, exciting class with a total body workout. The class will incorporate intervals of low to medium impact aerobics along with body toning and stretching. Participants are asked to bring a mat, weights (2 and 4 lbs.) and water.
Cape May County Library Hosts Teen Movie Night
Teens are invited to enjoy the movie “Fido” at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19 at the Main Branch of the Cape May County library. The movie “Fido” is rated R for zombie related violence; therefore a permission slip for this movie is required. A permission slip can be picked up at the Main Library or download the form from the Teen Web page at www.cmclibrary.org.
Main Library Presents Lecture On How To Improve A Garden’s Soil
Gardeners of all levels are invited to a presentation, “Soil Amendments for Gardening” at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 20th at the Main Branch of the Cape May County Library. A common question of gardeners is “what does my soil need”? Discover the “do’s and don’ts” of soil improvements and fertilization for gardens and landscapes.
Main Library Continues Lectures on Music
The second monthly lecture on music presented by Paul Somers of The Bay-Atlantic Symphony will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26 at the Main Branch of the Cape May County Library. Music scholar, enthusiast, composer and lecturer, Paul Somers, will explore the domination of Germanic music in Europe. Somers’ lecture will be “Enemies: Johannes Brahms and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Neither could stand the other’s music”.
Main Library Hosts “Delightfully Frightening Music”
This Halloween season everyone is invited to enjoy an evening of eerie music at the Main Branch of the Cape May County Library. Performer and presenter, Dr. Koren Cowgill, will delightfully frighten one and all with her music at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 28th. This lecture will consist of listening to and discussing music by film music composers such as Bernard Herrmann (Psycho), Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen) and John Carpenter (Halloween) as well as “scary” music by classical music composers from the 19th and 20th centuries. Classical works such as Krzysztof Penderecki’s “Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima” (1960), Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” (1867), Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” (1875) and Bartok’s “Music for Strings Percussion and Celeste” (1936), a work that was featured in the movie “The Shining” will be presented. Audience participation is encouraged.
Lower Branch Library Offers Pilates Progression Exercise Program
The Cape May County Library offers a Pilates exercise program for the public at the newly renovated Lower Cape Branch Library on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. The library is located at 2600 Bayshore Road., Villas. The Pilates exercise program is designed to improve core strength, posture and functional fitness. Pilates exercise is known to help with stabilization, to develop balance and to strengthen the lower back for complete support. Participants are asked to bring a mat and comfortable clothes to class.
