County Honors Choir Concert to Be Held March 2

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — March 2 at 5 p.m., the Cape Music Educators, Inc. will present its 21st annual Cape May County Honors Choir concert at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center.
The CMC Honors Choir includes approximately 105 students in grades 4-8 from the following schools: Ocean City intermediate, Upper Township Middle and Elementary Schools, Dennis Township Middle School, Middle Township Middle School and Middle Township Elementary #2; Cape Trinity Catholic; Sandman Consolidated School; West Cape May and Cape May City Elementary Schools; and the Richard M. Teitelman School.
General music teacher and choral director Mrs. Sue Kosturko of Upper Township Elementary and Middle Schools will be this year’s conductor. The accompanist will be Mrs. Julia Henrich, music teacher at Avalon and Stone Harbor Schools.
The founder of Cape Music Educators, Inc. is Gail Rodger, a retired music teacher from Sea Isle City schools and founder/director of the Young Cape Singers. Her message to singers has always been to dream big and have the courage to pursue your personal aspirations, including becoming President of the United States! Her tradition of ending the concert with “Over the Rainbow” is still meaningful, as alumni of the Cape May County Honors Choir sing with present-day singers.
As a prelude to the concert, several alumni and high school seniors will be performing individual pieces. These students are planning to pursue music in college and will receive a scholarship for their participation. Over the last twenty years, Cape Music Educators can count approximately twenty former members of the choir who have gone on to become music professionals. Julia Henrich, our accompanist for the evening, was a member of the first Honors Choir in 1994. Mr. Christopher Kobik, Superintendent of Lower Cape May Regional School District, will be the evening’s guest speaker about the importance of music.
Cape Music Educators will also be sponsoring a Choral Festival for elementary and middle schools in the South Jersey area, from Salem to Cape May Counties. This festival will be held at the beginning of June in the beautiful new Cape May Convention Hall.
Please help us celebrate on Music in Our Schools Month on March 2 at 5 p.m. at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $7 for general admission seating.
