County Culture and Heritage Commission Seeks Artists

COURT HOUSE – Freeholder E. Marie Hayes announced that the county is seeking artists to participate in an upcoming event. The Cape May County Culture and Heritage Commission will host its 12th Annual Exhibit and Contest of The National Arts Program® (NAP) at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center (PAC) Gallery from April 16 to May 8.
Freeholder Hayes said, “This free art competition is open to all local, county, state and federal government employees and their immediate families. Members of the County’s non-profit Culture and Heritage Round Table groups and their immediate families are also eligible. Immediate family includes spouse/partner, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister or parent. This year the National Arts Program® welcomes employees and volunteers from Cape Regional Medical Center and employees from all Cape May County Schools.”
The exhibit will consist of visual artwork in the following categories: painting; works on paper; photography; sculpture; mixed media; and craft. All entries submitted must be original works of the applicant completed within the last three years. There are separate classifications for adults (amateur, intermediate, and professional) and youth / teen (Youth 12 and under, and Teen 13 – 18).
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase all of the talented individuals that live in Cape May County. We are looking forward to seeing this year’s entries,” added Freeholder Hayes.

An opening awards ceremony and reception will be held April 16th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the PAC. The first-place prize in each adult class will be $300, with $200 for second, and $100 for third place. Youth/Teen prizes will be $75 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. A “Best of Show” of $300 will be presented. Honorable Mention ribbons and Certificates of Participation will also be presented. Additional prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
This program in Cape May County is one of 89 such exhibits in the country, and one of just five in New Jersey. The National Arts Program® in Cape May County is funded by The National Arts Program Foundation of Malvern, Pennsylvania and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
