CAPE MAY — City Council approved two change orders for the construction of Convention Hall totaling $66,000.
At a Tue., April 17 meeting, the first change order (number 7) approved was for $58,251 which covering flipping door frames at the stage, changing laminate panels on the reception desk to Corian Bronzite, furnishing four Lumec Promenade lights, installing conduit and boxes for audio visual equipment and raising main hall linear diffusers for air conditioning.
According to a Jan. 17 request from Ogren Construction, $2,107 was requested to remove double door 118 and reinstall it to swing into room and allow ductwork to pass through and to flip double door 115 to swing into room. The change order request also covered shifting the door for 5-inch swing clearance and adding a stud.
A change order from Arose Inc. for $7,845 covers installing a mobility controller, access points and active electronics for voice data-telecommunications.
Council approved a contract with Greenscape Landscaping, of Moorestown, in the amount of $29,615 for landscaping of Convention Hall. Deputy Mayor Jack Wichterman said one of five bids was from a local contractor but Greenscape was the lowest bidder.
City Manager Bruce MacLeod said installation of bamboo floor in the main hall of Convention Hall was one-third completed. He expected it would be completed by April 20.
Tile work in the entryway to Convention Hall and Solarium area is underway.
Carpet installation is scheduled for the end of the week in the lobby, he said. Carpet has been installed in the administrative offices.
MacLeod said finish work is underway in the restrooms for items such as partitions.
The boardwalk that surrounds three sides of the building is substantially completed, he said. Installation of railings on the boardwalk on the west side and rear of Convention Hall was scheduled to begin by the end of the week.
Tile on the face of the building’s foundation on the Beach Avenue side of Convention Hall was about 25 percent completed as of April 17.
Repairs to the seawall will begin where it was breached to allow delivery of construction materials.
