THE WILDWOODS – Neon-colored sails will flood the waters along the Wildwoods’ award-winning beaches during the Wildwoods Classic Cup XXVII Hobie Cat Races Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 between Spencer and Schellenger Avenues on the beach.
The Wildwoods’ Classic Cup XXVII Hobie Cat Races will attract over 75 boats and 150 sailors from New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware and other states along the East Coast. The Wildwoods Classic Cup Hobie Cat Races have even seen sailors travel from as far as Puerto Rico to compete in the past.
Despite being one of the East Coast’s last remaining ocean Hobie Cat Regattas, it’s the races’ challenging course that attracts huge crowds of sailors and sailing enthusiasts to the Wildwoods Classic Cup every August. And for many of the regatta’s participants, the fun has more to do with the revelry that surrounds the annual event.
The regatta’s presence is also known to vacationers who can take photos next to the sleek-looking Hobies – whose eye-popping, neon-colored sails flail in the wind and make for a good family vacation photo backdrop.
The Wildwoods Classic Cup is one of the most anticipated regattas of the year and is a sanctioned regatta for all Hobie Classes. This year, the Wildwoods hosts the Division 11 Championships, with the winners from the Wildwoods Classic Cup moving on to compete in the National Championship scheduled to take place at Fort Walton Beach, Florida in November.
Races begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, and at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, weather permitting.
The races are FREE for spectators to enjoy.
