Cold Spring Village Folk Festival Set For The Weekend Of September 18-19

Take some time to relax in the crisp fall air, and enjoy a laid back music festival under the shade of Historic Cold Spring Village, an Early American living history museum situated on 30 acres and comprised of 26 restored, historic buildings. The Festival, originally scheduled for July, was postponed due to extreme heat advisories and will not be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 18th & 19th from 10:00am-4:30pm. Set in several different staging areas throughout the site, musicians from around the region will perform traditional bluegrass, sea shanties, Irish fiddle, dulcimer, Baymens’ heritage tunes and more. In addition, various folk and heritage demonstrations will be held throughout the grounds including historical interpreters in the Village buildings presenting trades and crafts of the 1800s; the event will also feature a juried craft marketplace. This event is generously sponsored by Comcast and made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, administered by the Cape May County Division of Culture and Heritage.
The Folk Festival, which has not been held at the Village since the early ‘90s, has been revived and will include veteran performers such as The Snake Brothers and Jim Albertson as well as newcomers to the event including Ian Thomas, whom Philadephia Weekly has stated “is clearly picking up the torch of American folk music.” Other artists include The Towheads featuring Junior Eastern Region Irish Fiddle Champ Haley Richardson and Steve Byrne, a Southern New Jersey ragtime-blues musician. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets, as well as take advantage of bench seating at the Gazebo and Pavilion areas. Dogs are also welcome at the Village under owner supervision.
Historic Cold Spring Village is located on Route 9, three miles north of Victorian Cape May and a mile and a half west of the southern terminus of the Garden State Parkway. HCSV is open Tuesday through Sunday. Admission during the season is $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors (62 and over) and $6.00 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under 3 are admitted free. Unlimited free admission is available with membership in the Friends of Historic Cold Spring Village.
