By Sponsored Content

CAPE MAY – The Center for Community Arts is happy to announce the fall sessions of its Youth Arts Program: Saturday Night YAP and Art at the Library. CCA hosts youth ages 10-14 and exposes them to the arts and social activities every Saturday evening throughout much of the school year, beginning Sept. 28. As each semester has a new theme, this season subject is “Cultural Connections”. Travel the world exploring the music, art and stories of different cultures. The class will travel to the continents of South America to study the music and dance of Columbia, Southeastern Europe to study Romania and Africa to study Cameroon. Teachers Michael Longstreth, Jackie Carter in Cape May and Amanda Tozer and Sarah El Shabaree in Lower Township are highly enthusiastic about the curriculum and engaged in involving the kids with the projects.
Each week children will develop arts forms, paint and draw interpretations of the cultural groups and study the music and dance. The Fall YAP sessions ends with air time on WCFA FM radio by retelling some of the stories while ‘travelling around the globe’. Activities run from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The YAP programs are free and include a light supper. The Locations for YAP are the Cape May United Methodist Church and Richard Teiteleman Middle School for Lower Township residents.
Art at the Library has the same theme, Cultural connections. The children will travel across the globe listening to folktales and creating multi-cultural art. They started with the Peace Book-The World, then on to Strega Nona’s Harvest – Italy, Wabi Sabi – Japan. Then, they’ll travel on to Thailand, Africa, Mexico, Russia and home to the USA.
Save your children’s Saturday evenings for the fun and educational Youth Art Programs which began Sept. 28 and runs to Dec. 7 5:00 p.m. Art at the Library began Sept. 23 and runs to Dec. 2 at the Cape May County Libraries: Cape May, Lower Township, Sea Isle City and Wildwood Crest at 3:30 p.m. on their designated days.
