Center for Community Arts Presents “Winter Shore Slam”

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – The Center for Community Arts is thrilled to announce the return of another season of the Winter Shore Slams. The first of the Winter Shore Slams will be held Tue., Nov. 8, 2011 at Lucky Bones Backwater Grille. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and sign-ups are available until 6:50 p.m., with an expected 7:00 p.m. start time.
The monthly poetry and first person themed story competitions are open to everyone 18 to 85 with a 5-minute story to tell on the night’s theme or a 3-minute original poem to share. The kickoff Winter Shore Slam’s theme will be Catastrophes. When the doors open, we put the names of all who want to tell a story or share a poem in a hat. Participants’ names are selected at random. Teams of judges, selected from the audience, do the scoring. Each Shore Slam produces two nightly winners – one in each category. The evenings’ winners will be featured at the next month’s Shore Slam performing a piece of their own choice.
New to the Winter Shore Slam is the Bull Slam. After the poetry and themed competition, the Bull Slam competition will be held. Bull Slam stories can be true, partially true or completely untrue. At the end, the audience will vote. You win the Bull Slam by being the best at ‘putting one over’. Each Bull Slam will produce one winner who will be featured at the next month’s Slam. All winners will face off in the Shore Grand Slam to be held April 22 at Cape May Stage’s Robert Shackelton Playhouse, Lafayette and Bank Streets, Cape May.
Come sign up to tell a story, share a poem or put one over during the Bull Slam. For more information call 609-884-7525, www.centerforcommunityarts.org or join CCA’s Facebook fan page.
