CAPE MAY — The City of Cape May has scheduled a news conference for March 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ. The purpose of this news conference is to announce and describe the extensive schedule of performing arts events that will be presented at Cape May Convention Hall from Memorial Day Weekend through the December holiday season. Based upon very positive feedback and constructive input from our loyal regional patrons, the City has created a diversified array of international, national, and emerging entertainers who will provide high quality cultural and artistic performances while generating excitement and enjoyment for the audiences.
A major component of the news conference will be the personal and technologically-aided appearances by a sampling of the renowned celebrities who will be performing this year at our Convention Hall. These talented artists will explain the customized themes and content of their shows, background and highlights regarding their successful careers in entertainment, and their special reasons for agreeing to perform in Cape May. Internationally-renowned singer Deana Martin will personally participate on-site in the news conference while other talented entertainers, such as Peter Nero, George DeMott, and Jeff Coon will interact by means of Skype and/or telephone conference call.
Deana Martin has firmly established herself as an internationally renowned recording artist, television and film star, actress, author, and radio host in the tradition of her legendary father Dean Martin. During her concert, Deana takes the audience on a musical journey, honoring Dean Martin and other great performers who shaped American music and popular culture for over four decades. Deana actually sings the sound track of our lives. The show is a combination of musical treasures intertwined with personal reflections and private recollections from Deana who grew up having a family-like relationship with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Judy Garland, and many others.
Two-time Grammy Award-winning pianist Peter Nero is the founding music director and, for 38 years, served as the conductor of the world-renowned Peter Nero and the Philly POPS. This 2014 Cape May concert is one of only two performances annually in which Peter leads the orchestra. He blends classical, swing, Broadway, blues, and jazz while maintaining virtuosity and authenticity as he both conducts and plays his Steinway piano with creativity.
George DeMott is a singing and dancing tenor in the trio Poperazzi. These three young, sexy, and versatile entertainers perform opera with a twist. You can expect everything from rock to opera and classic Frank Sinatra tunes to the Rolling Stones as Poperazzi mixes years of musical tradition in a contemporary format during their fast-paced show. Individually and collectively, Poperazzi has travelled the globe and is looking forward to interacting with the Cape May audience in Convention Hall’s intimate setting.
Jeff Coon is a graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School who has already achieved a twenty-year career as a professional stage actor with rave national reviews. During July and August, Jeff will present three performances of a cabaret-style production of “An Evening at the Cape May Summer Club”. Come fly with us back to an era when life was cooler and music was snappier. This swinging evening of singing, dancing, and fantastic fun will be hosted by Jeff and will feature some of his most talented and entertaining friends from Philadelphia and New York along with an incredible live band. Experience an evening of live entertainment that you won’t get anywhere else at the Jersey Shore.
At this March 31 news conference, representatives of the City of Cape May and the participating performers will be available to answer media questions and engage in recorded interviews regarding their major roles in this exciting, fun-filled schedule of entertaining performances at Cape May Convention Hall.
The general public is also invited to attend this media conference to learn about and interact with the talented artists who will be providing the “bright lights” in Cape May in 2014. Free light refreshments will be served to complement the ambience and social interaction at the news conference.
