Cape May to host Atlantic City Ballet

CAPE MAY – The Atlantic City Ballet will be performing their popular Repertoire at the Paul Schmidtchen Theatre located at 687 Route 9 in Cape May, NJ on Sat., Aug. 27, 2011 at 4 p.m.
Ticket price is $27/Adult; $24/Senior; $15/Child.
Repertoire consists of four diverse and exciting dances: Eclipse, Tango, Drums and Love Royale.
ECLIPSE (Choreographed by Phyllis Papa) is a rock ballet that is vibrant and exciting. Eclipse explores the contemporary and celebrates the summer solstice. The ballet takes place in the Nordic Lands where people experience six months of darkness. The celebration of light is one of the biggest Holidays of the year. The ballet’s climax is a very breathtaking pas de deux that finishes with the couple flying through the air in a lotus blossom.
TANGO (Choreographed by Phyllis Papa), a beautiful ballet in three movements, captures the elegant tango done on pointe with both contemporary and classical movement enriched with traditional music.
DRUMS (Choreographed by Phyllis Papa) is vibrant swirling costumes and pulsing drumbeats that characterize this phantasm of an African festival.
LOVE ROYALE (Choreographed by Kristaps Kikulis) takes place in the 40’s & 50’s with college students falling in love. The music is by French composer, Yann Tiersen.
The company is comprised of 28 professional dancers from the U.S., Europe, Korea, Japan, Canada, Mexico and Australia. Along with Ballet Master, Kristaps Kikulis, (in Love Royale), Repertoire is choreographed and directed by company founder, Miss Phyllis Papa. Prior to founding the Atlantic City Ballet in 1982, some of Miss Papa’s accomplishments included membership as a Principle Dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Stars of the American Ballet, as well as being the recipient of the 1998 Brazilian Gold Medal of Honor.
