CAPE MAY – Cape May Stage transforms from a theatre into a comedy club for one night only! Sept. 8 at 8 p.m., the Ivy League of Comedy Night comes back for an encore performance. Shaun Eli returns, but this time with a new headliner – lawyer turned comedian and mother of two boys Karen Bergreen. You’ll be rolling in the aisles and gasping from laughter in a night that can only be described as absolutely hysterical. It’s comedy night, done right!
A graduate of Harvard University and University of Minnesota’s Law School, Karen Bergreen was a paralegal, an associate at a law firm and a clerk before she decided to throw it all away for comedy. Now a mother of two small boys, Karen does stand-up in order to get out of the house. She has appeared on Comedy Central, The Oxygen Network, and The View. While the kids aren’t looking, Karen is a novelist. Her 2010 comic novel Following Polly earned praise from The New York Times, Oprah Magazine, and her mother-in-law. Her second novel Perfect is Overrated was released last summer.
A graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Shaun Eli has been called one of America’s smartest comics. Hailed as a master storyteller, Eli exposes the hilarity of the ordinary when life is approached with the right attitude. His material has appeared in the opening monologues of a number of late-night personalities, including Jay Leno who says it’s the kind of “smart comedy” he likes to use.
The Ivy League of Comedy Night is part of Cape May Stage’s acclaimed Second Stage series and will take place Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $25. For reservations and more information, call the box office at (609) 770-8311 or visit www.capemaystage.org.
