CAPE MAY — July 7, 2014 at 8 p.m., Cape May Stage presents Heather Mac Rae in “Songs for My Father,” a stunning tribute to her late father, Broadway star Gordon Mac Rae. Mac Rae is the first of five cabaret performances in the Equity theatre’s highly-anticipated sixth annual Second Stage Broadway Series.
Described by The New York Post as having a “most appealing, warmly human, unforced quality,” Heather Mac Rae’s love for her father shines throughout the evening. Interweaving stories of her father and their relationship with some of his most popular songs, Mac Rae dazzles audiences in a celebration of the special relationship shared between father and daughter. Including many songs from his best-known roles in the musical films of Oklahoma! and Carousel, “Songs for My Father” is a homage that will warm the heart and spur nostalgia in fans of musical theatre.
Fans of Gordon Mac Rae will not be disappointed – his daughter is an outstanding talent in her own right. Praised by Backstage magazine as being “sassy, funny, dramatic, sensual, joyful and immensely likeable,” Mac Rae followed in her father’s Broadway path, appearing in productions of Hair, A Catered Affair, and Falsettos. She is perhaps best known for her role in Woody Allen’s film Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask). Mac Rae’s television appearances include roles on Frasier, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and One Life to Live.
“Songs for My Father” is part of Cape May Stage’s acclaimed Second Stage Broadway Series. This special one-night only performance will take place July 7 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Lafayette and Bank Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $50 and include an invitation to an exclusive after party at the Wine Bar at the Washington Inn immediately following the performance.
Cape May Stage’s Second Stage Broadway Series is presented through the generous support of Catherine Rein, Leslie & Myles Martel, Steven & Janet Miller, and Matt & Mary Trella.
