CAPE MAY – Cape May Stage kicks off its Second Stage series with Broadway actress and cabaret artist Liz McKendry in ‘From Buffalo to Broadway!’ Seen last summer as Gretchen in the smash hit Boeing Boeing, McKendry returns to the stage with a show all her own.
Capturing the spirited tale of a young girl’s journey of euphoria, disarray and survival in the life long search of her dreams, From Buffalo to Broadway is an enchanting evening of song and story. As a Buffalo native herself, McKendry’s own personal experiences and the autobiographical elements take this one-woman show to new heights. Bringing an effortless charm and grace to the stage, McKendry perfectly captures the spirit and perseverance of what it takes to realize a dream. In an evening that should not be missed McKendry takes command of the stage, exuding the outstanding qualities that contributed to her standout performance in Boeing Boeing.
Getting her start in Las Vegas, McKendry performed in Donn Arden’s Jubilee! before landing a spot in the Broadway musical The Producers and, consequently, the film adaptation. She has appeared at a number of off-Broadway and regional theatres, including roles in Sleep No More and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum at The Paper Mill Playhouse. Television credits include appearances on The Young & The Restless and Mad Fashion on Bravo. Recently McKendry performed her solo show at The Metropolitan Room in New York City.
From Buffalo to Broadway is part of Cape May Stage’s acclaimed Second Stage Series. This cabaret performance will take place June 9 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $25. Call (609) 770-8311 for information and reservations or visit the theatre’s website at www.capemaystage.org.
