CAPE MAY — July 14 at 8 p.m., Cape May Stage presents Anna Bergman in “You & the Night & the Music: An Evening of Musical Imports and Exports” at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse as part of the Equity theatre’s highly-acclaimed Second Stage Broadway Series.
Hailed by The Wall Street Journal as “a vocal citizen of the world who has triumphed in everything from Broadway tunes to opera arias and the sultry innuendoes of the cabaret chanteuse,” Bergman treats audiences to an eclectic mix of operatic arias and musical theatre gems in an evening that can only be described as “electrifying” and performed by “an artist at the top of her game.”
In “You & the Night & the Music,” Bergman, the daughter of an American diplomat and actress, presents an international musical scrapbook. From the American songbook, she includes selections by Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Schwartz & Howard Dietz, George & Ira Gershwin, Carol King and John Denver. She pays tribute to her European roots with Parisian chanson, Viennese operetta and Italian opera, and pays homage to such artists as Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich.
Bergman has performed internationally in concerts, cabarets, opera, music festivals, as well as on television. Highlights of her career include solo performances at the White House and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s birthday celebration, performances at both the Lincoln and Kennedy Centers and Carnegie Hall, plus appearance in two PBS concert specials, one of which was her very own.
“You & the Night & the Music” is part of Cape May Stage’s acclaimed Second Stage Broadway Series. This special one-night only performance will take place on Monday, July 14 at 8 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Lafayette and Bank Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling the box office at (609) 770-8311 or visiting the theatre’s website Capemaystage.org. All tickets include an invitation to an exclusive after-party at the Wine Bar at the Washington Inn on the corner of Washington and Jefferson Streets immediately following the performance.
Cape May Stage’s Second Stage Broadway Series is presented through the gracious support of Catherine Rein, Leslie & Myles Martel, Stephen & Janet Miller, and Matt & Mary Trella.
