CAPE MAY – Caution: This is not for the faint of heart. Throughout the remainder of October and November, Cape May Stage continues with Danger: Stay Away!, a series of staged readings meant for only the most intrepid of theatregoers.
What happens when a man with two lovers must choose only one? What’s it like to battle addiction in its many forms? How do you handle it when your greatest secret threatens to be exposed? Where do you draw the line between emotional intimacy and pure carnal desire?
If these provocative issues intrigue you, then Danger: Stay Away! is meant for you. These staged readings are designed to stimulate, provoke, challenge, and most of all, make you walk away from the theater with a broader understanding of the human condition and the contemporary world in which we live. We dare you to come.
The schedule for Danger: Stay Away! is as follows:
Oct. 29
A Celebration of Halloween
An original collection of readings and vignettes about Halloween including poetry, Poe, the backs of horror film DVDs, and much more.
Nov. 4
Cock by Mike Bartlett
A man must choose between his longtime boyfriend and his new girlfriend— he ends up torn between the two who are more than willing to fight to keep him theirs.
Nov. 18
The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis
A former drug dealer finds the inadvertently misplaced hat of his girlfriend’s lover, threatening his relationship, his parole, and his sobriety in an intoxicatingly vulgar look at recovery from addiction.
Nov. 19
The Bus by James Lanz
The secret rendezvous location of two boys falls in danger of exposure and they become caught in a conflict between the most powerful church in town and the gas station owned by one of their fathers.
Nov. 20
The Eros Trilogy by Nicky Silver
Three short stories connecting four characters: a comically elegant lady deals with real-life grit; her volatile, drug-addicted son creates some real-life grit; and a vitriolic epistolary.
