CAPE MAY – Cape May Stage, Cape May’s premier professional Equity theatre, is inviting the public to two special free events. Part of this season’s Meet Your Seat series, presented with the generous support of the PNC Foundation that provides funding for the PNC Arts Alive initiative, it’s a festive holiday celebration: the Community Open House Candlelight Tour and Christmas Concert on Sat., Dec. 8, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The Coffee and Conversation series continues with A Tuna Christmas: How Two Actors Play a Multitude of Characters on Thur., Dec. 13, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Both events are at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on Bank and Lafayette Streets.
A Tuna Christmas: How Two Actors Play a Multitude of Characters on Dec. 13 is your chance to meet the cast of A Tuna Christmas, as well as Artistic Director Roy Steinberg. Over free coffee and pastries, the conversation will examine how an artistic team and actors prepare for a play that requires two men to play 24 unique characters using swift changes, creative direction and theatrical magic.
The Community Open House Candlelight Tour and Christmas Concert on Dec. 8 will feature carolers from the Cape May Lutheran Church. The public is invited for tours of the historic Robert Shackleton Playhouse, chances to meet the Cape May Stage staff, and a free concert.
Both events feature a chance to take the opportunity of family discounts on for a special PNC Arts Alive sponsored performance of the hilarious A Tuna Christmas on Dec. 26 at 8 p.m.
“In everyone’s new favorite holiday show, A Tuna Christmas,” says Artistic Director Roy Steinberg, “two extraordinarily talented clowns create twenty-four characters in madcap fashion. We look forward to sharing some insights as to how they pull it off night after night. And the Cape May Lutheran Church will have the sounds of the season ringing through the air. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”
The PNC Foundation has a long history of providing grants to non-profit organizations that strengthen and enrich the lives of our neighbors, said Bill Mills, regional president of PNC for Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. We understand the valuable return that investing in the arts can deliver. Today more than ever, the businesses we attract, the jobs we create and the visitors who extend their stay are drawn by what the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey region has to offer.
PNC Financial Services Group is the presenting sponsor of Cape May Stages Meet Your Seat programming. The support is part of PNC Arts Alive, a five-year, $5 million investment from The PNC Foundation to help area residents gain access to the arts, and help arts organizations expand and engage audiences. Only twenty-five arts organizations in 2012 in the Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey region were selected for bold thinking around increasing arts access and engagement and Cape May Stage was one. For more information on PNC Arts Alive and the grant recipients visit www.PNCARTSALIVE.com.
Community Open House Candlelight Tour and Christmas Concert will take place on Sat., Dec. 8 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located at the corner of Bank & Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May.
