CAPE MAY — Cape May Stage and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities join together to bring Susan Beilby Magee, author of Into the Light: The Healing Art of Kalman Aron, to Cape May.
Magee will give a brilliant presentation of the journey of California-based artist and Holocaust survivor, Kalman Aron, as he emerged from the darkness of the Holocaust and reclaimed his light over a lifetime of painting. A successful artist and diverse talent, Aron painted portraits of notables such as Henry Miller and Ronald Reagan, while also being known for his landscapes and studies of people in his own unique style – psychological realism.
A Jewish Book Council author, Susan Beilby Magee has presented at the Library of Congress, New York Museum of Jewish Heritage and Washington National Cathedral. She was a White House Fellow, executive at the US Treasury and Commerce Departments and international business consultant before she turned from business to matters of meditation and healing.
Through Into the Light, Magee weaves Aron’s first-person memoir and her own third-person critical biography with the evolution of his paintings to explore Kalman Aron’s instinctive responses to elemental questions: How does one recover from the extremes of human brutality? What happens to the rage, sorrow, and despair? Does one choose to remember, forgive, and heal?
Spanning a compelling ranges of topics – art, peace, the Holocaust, tolerance, hope and spirituality – Into the Light holds an important message of healing that has universal appeal.
Into the Light will take place Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $15 general admission with a $10 discount ticket available for students. For reservations and more information, call 609-770-8311 or visit www.capemaystage.org.
