CAPE MAY — Relish the crunch of leaves underfoot and enjoy the cool, crisp days of October in Cape May during three crafts and antiques shows sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC).
Harvest Festival Crafts & Antiques Show – Oct. 4
The perfect time to bring the family to enjoy the beautiful grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. is during the Annual Harvest Festival Crafts & Antiques Show Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s event once again features fall, family-friendly activities, along with shopping for antiques and hand-crafted goods from talented artisans and unique vendors.
New this year is a free Scarecrow Workshop, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Gather your family or group or come on your own. Bring clothing, props and other accessories, and get creative. Create your own scarecrow to be admired with dozens of others along “Scarecrow Alley,” when the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., are transformed for Halloween and become the setting for goofy goblins and spooky specters, from Oct. 10 through Nov. 2. Scarecrow Alley is part of the 6th Annual Scarecrow Contest sponsored by MAC, when friends, family, schoolmates and colleagues, create spooky, scary or just plain silly scarecrows and compete for prizes with an overall prize of $200. Use this Scarecrow Workshop to have a lot of fun and complete your creation, then register for the contest, all in just a few hours. A special “Munchkin” category is for children ages 3-10 with smaller-sized stakes available. Information on Scarecrow Contest registration will be available at the workshop. Children attending the workshop must be accompanied by an adult.
Be sure to stop by the Pumpkin Painting table where your children can design and paint their own pumpkins. Children will have fun playing in the Bubble Pond and choosing their design at the Face Painting table. If your little ones enjoy crafts, stop by the Mummy Candles Craft Project table and make your own mummy candle. Plus, the little ones (ages 3-8) will enjoy a Hay Ride around the estate. Stop by the Food Concession table for a hot dog and other kid-friendly treats. Admission to the grounds is free, with separate charge for some activities, and plenty of free parking is available. Crafters and antiques dealers from throughout the region will display and sell their wares on the Estate lawn. Enjoy browsing among artisans and vendors selling their handmade and unique goods, including candles, jewelry, goat milk soap, hand-painted wine glasses, hand-knitted scarves and hats, vintage jewelry, crab cakes and seafood soups, hand-crafted mouth blown glass vases, platters and bowls, and much more.
