Cape May’s 2013 Designer Show House: If this is the year you’re determined to turn your cabin into a castle, first visit the 2013 Cape May Designer Show House for inspiration. Nestled on Washington Street across from the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, owners Ionna Iliopulos and Tom Cataldo welcome you to the Cavalier Cottage, a Neo-Victorian home reminiscent of the Southern Mansion or the Mainstay Inn, on a more intimate scale. The 2,800-square foot home features a 900-square foot wrap-around porch, as well as a cupola gracing the low-pitched roof. In the Italianate style popular in the 1850s-’70s, the house features overhanging eaves with oversized brackets and a gracefully columned veranda, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by. A double mahogany door welcomes you to come in and visit. More than a dozen living spaces will spotlight the creativity of local and regional designers, making the 2013 Designer Show House a must-see in Cape May. Admission $15. Self-guided tours offered daily through Oct 31, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours at 7 p.m. offered nightly (except for Saturdays) in conjunction with Dinner Packages at 5:30 p.m. with Cape May restaurants ($50). Lunch packages daily at 11:30 a.m. with the Carriage House Café & Tearoom ($35) available. Save $3 on a combination tour with the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate ($22).
