Carriage House Gallery Exhibit: “Cape May Ablaze” From the pages of “The First Resort.” Author Ben Miller brings alive 150 years of dramatic fires that have shaped Cape May’s history. Ghosts of the Lighthouse Trolley Tour: A trolley tour through parts of West Cape May to the Lighthouse, with tales of ghostly activity throughout. Participants will be met at the Lighthouse by a costumed Keeper who will relate a ghostly tale inside the Lighthouse with time available to climb. Begins and ends at the Ocean Street trolley stop. Cape May Time Capsule Trolley Tour: New in 2014! Experience Cape May’s history up close, through the eyes of those who lived it. Meet characters from the past who visited, lived and worked in Cape May, as your trolley travels through town. Costumed historical interpreters bring to life the town’s Victorian heritage. Friends of the Lighthouse “At the Light with Geno White”: Help celebrate the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse with music at the base of the lighthouse. Now digitally remastered, Geno White created “Music From Inside the Lighthouse” over 20 years ago, recording the tracks inside the lighthouse. Enjoy Geno White’s live music on the grounds, lighthouse-themed entertainment and climb the 199 steps to the top. Events on the grounds are free; Adults $8 to climb; children (ages 3-12) $3. Lighthouse Full Moon Climb: The Friends of the Cape May Lighthouse invite you to the full moon climb. Take advantage of the light of the full moon and let it guide you up the 199 stairs to the starry top. The Lighthouse is located in Cape May Point State Park, Lower Township. Tower admission is free for “Friends” members. May 14, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Non-members price is $8 for adults, $3 for children (ages 3-12). Ghost 101 Investigation: Join paranormal research team Ghost-One for an investigation at the reputedly haunted Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. Try your hand at some of their investigating tools and do EVP readings then discuss your findings over dessert at the Carriage House Café & Tearoom. Delaware Bay Lighthouse Adventure: Come aboard the Cape May Whale Watcher to view and photograph historic lighthouses of the late 19th and early part of the 20th centuries. Most of these lighthouses stand on pedestals out of sight of land and are still operational. Each 7-hour cruise includes narration on Delaware Bay lore and legend, with information on fishing, spawning grounds and more. Includes complimentary continental breakfast in the morning and a lavish buffet lunch. A cash bar is available. May 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets $99. Cape May Stage presents “The Mountaintop”: Set in 1968 on the eve of Martin Luther King’s assassination, this powerful drama by Katori Hall weaves a surrealistic fantasy about a conversation between King and the mysterious hotel maid who brings him coffee and prompts him to confront his life, his past, his legacy, and the future of African-Americans. Performance schedule is as follows: May 21 through June 13, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The Robert Shackleton Playhouse is located at the corner of Bank & Lafayette streets. Guardians of the Cape: A narrated tour of the beachfront, east of Madison Avenue to the Coast Guard Base where the trolley will continue with a tour of the only USCG training facility in the United States. Trolley will take passengers to the Sunset Parade of the entire battalion of recruits. Following the Sunset Parade, the trolley will shuttle back to the trolley stop. World War II Tower Lookout Museum and Memorial: (Fire Control Tower No. 23) A Museum and Memorial. Fire Control Tower No. 23 on Sunset Boulevard is New Jersey’s last freestanding World War II tower, part of the immense Harbor Defense of the Delaware system known as Fort Miles. After the award-winning restoration, visitors can climb to the 6th floor spotting gallery while reliving the homeland defense efforts during World War II. The ground floor of the tower is fully accessible.
