COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Museum presents its 4 week Spring Lecture Series, beginning Wednesday, April 21st at 7 pm. This year’s theme is “A Night at the Movies.” Each week, a short film on the subject of Southern New Jersey history will be presented in the Museum’s meeting room.
On April 21st, “Goodwill,” the story of Emilio Carranza will be shown. Carranza was the Lindbergh of Mexico and had been in New York to reciprocate a visit to Mexico by Lindbergh. On his return trip, his plane crashed in the Pine Barrens, where there is a monument to him today.
On April 28th, learn the story of the Blue Comet. The Blue Comet brought passengers from New York City to Atlantic City from 1929 to 1941. Painted blue, including the engine, the Blue Comet was the epitome of luxury train travel in its time.
May 5th’s feature is “WW II Remembrances.” In 2009, two young girls spent the summer interviewing World War II veterans in Stone Harbor. This film is the story of these local men and their amazing experiences.
On May 12th, it’s the history of “The Civilian Conservation Corps”, an unprecedented public works project that put 3 million Americans to work in our national parks and forests. Belleplain State Park, McNamara Wildlife Refuge and Parvin State Park were all CCC projects.
The Museum is located at 504 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House. All lectures are free and open to the public. The facility is handicapped accessible. Refreshments including free popcorn will be served at each movie. For more information, please call the Museum at 465-3535.
