Runners up will also be awarded prizes.
To participate, all interested music groups must submit an audition video via email to School of Rock at mmorpurgo@schoolofrock.com by August 20th. “If you are in a band, just formed one, or putting one together for this event, Morey’s Piers is the perfect venue to showcase your talent,” said Michael Morpurgo, owner of School of Rock.
Since mid-June, top bands from School of Rock, a performance program for young musicians ages 7-18, have performed evening concerts at Morey’s Piers’ artBOX. School of Rock groups from around the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area showcase a variety of music genres from Rock n’ Roll and Indy Rock, to a playlist of original songs, and will continue to play throughout the remainder of the summer. For a list of scheduled performances, visit www.moreyspiers.com/schoolofrock.
“We’ve seen an extraordinary mix of young talent perform at artBOX this summer,” added Jack Morey, second-generation partner of Morey’s Piers. “The King of the Boards promises to be live music at its best…it’s the perfect finale to a very rock n’ roll inspired season at Adventure Pier.”
The School of Rock takes students from the lesson room to the stage, developing both their confidence and musicianship with programs designed for all skill levels. It teaches guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards, drums and combines weekly private music lessons and group band rehearsals to prepare students to take the stage in front of live audiences in an authentic concert setting. To date School of Rock students have played thousands of concerts, to more than 100,000 people, at such legendary venues as CBGB’s, The Trocadero, The Knitting Factory, The Whiskey, The Roxy, The Experience Music Project, The Big Easy and BB King’s Blues Club in Times Square.
