Big Band to Play at Jazz Vespers, June 15

CAPE MAY – The Cape May Jazz Vespers series is a monthly one-hour concert, that promotes some of the finest musicians in the South Jersey area. Here are the events for June and July.
Ed Vezinho/Jim Ward Big Band – June 15 at 3:00 p.m.
The Ed Vezinho/Jim Ward Big Band will storm the Jazz Vespers stage at Cape May Presbyterian Church, Hughes and Decatur Streets, Cape May. Riding the crest of the new-found popularity of big band jazz composer/arranger Vezinho and trumpeter extraordinaire Ward lead a top-notch band of A.C. show performers through great originals and arrangements of classics by Ellington, Dorsey and more contemporary bands. Performing June 16 at 3:00 p.m.
Behn Gillece – July 20 at 8:00 p.m.
Vibraphonist Behn Gillece began his musical training in his teenage years, inspired by such greats as Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson. As a New Jersey native, Gillece had many early performance opportunities in his home state, as well as Philadelphia, before moving to New York in 2006. As a recording artist, he has appeared as a co-leader/sideman on 20+ recordings, and continues to tirelessly compose for new projects. Some of Gillece’s awards and honors include winning the 2008 Jazz Improvisation competition at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, participating in the 2009 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency, and winning the Generations competition in 2009.
