AVALON — Avalon’s first Green Fair drew nearly two dozen vendors and exhibitors, and over 1,000 people attended. The 2010 Green Fair is going to be even bigger, and better.
The Avalon Green Team, the Borough’s all-volunteer group that encourages environmental responsibility and innovative ‘green’ energy concepts, is hosting the second annual Avalon Green Fair on Sat., Oct. 9, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. inside the Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street and the beach. The fair is free, and open to the public.
“This year’s Green Fair will include even more exhibitors and vendors,” said Jim Collins, the chairman of the Avalon Green Team. “We will have over 30 different tables set up and residents will have a tremendous opportunity to learn how they can be environmentally responsible, and save money while doing so.”
The Green Fair is sponsored by Barth Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, a Hutchinson company. Barth representatives will be on hand to discuss ways homeowners in Avalon can use new technology to heat and cool their homes detail how easy it is to implement new cost-effective technology.”
There are four focus areas of interests at the Green Fair: Solar energy, energy audits, smart landscaping, and geothermal energy. Many of the exhibitors selected for the Green Fair will be able to discuss these topics and provide information and pamphlets to attendees.
Plenty of freebies will be available during the Green Fair. When you enter Community Hall, be sure to visit the registration table. The first 1,000 visitors will be given a free, earth-friendly Avalon tote bag with an Avalon “Greener by a Mile” sticker.
A floor guide of where to find specific vendors and topics will be available.
On the back of the guide is a very brief survey that takes less than 60 seconds to complete, and be entered to win one of many great prizes that are donated by the vendors at the Green Fair; you do not have to be present at the conclusion of the Green Fair to win.
A brand new addition to the Avalon Green Fair will be a special video presentation. The video will continuously loop every 20 minutes on a large screen television and will include interviews conducted by Avalon Public Information Officer Scott Wahl on the four focus areas of the Green Fair.
The Avalon Green Fair is one of two exciting events on Oct. 9. The Avalon Chamber of Commerce’s popular Seafood Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10 in the parking lot located just north of Community Hall. There will be plenty of food, crafts, vendors, live music, and fun for the entire family.
