Avalon Free Public Library Announces Events for May

AVALON – Computer classes, movie nights and book clubs are among the events offered by the Avalon Free Public Library during the month of May.
May 2
10 a.m. to noon
iPad Workshop- Beginner
If you just received an iPad, this class is for you. We will start with the basics of how to use and navigate the device. Please be sure you have your Apple ID and password. (Required prior to class) Register by calling 609-967-7155 or stopping by the circulation desk.
May 4 and 5
10 a.m. to noon
Mosaics Art Workshop
Make a mosaic flowerpot in this 2-day workshop with instructor Michele Pascuillo. You will choose your materials and glue your project on day one and return to grout on day two. All supplies are included. Registration is required by calling 609-967-7155 or stopping by the circulation desk

Award Season Film: Selma
Selma is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s SELMA tells the real story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. Stars Steve David Oyelowo, Oprah Winfrey and Tim Roth. Rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic material including violence, a suggestive moment, and brief strong language.

Apple Computer Class- File Organization Structure
This beginner class will look at the best ways to view and organize your files and help you devise an organization strategy that works for you. In addition, we will create a tailored desktop workflow diagram that can be used to manage your workflow practices. You are welcome to bring your iPhone or iPad, but please be aware this class will focus on Apple computers and may only highlight some aspects of mobile devices.

Award Season Film: American Sniper
