STONE HARBOR — This Columbus Day Weekend, Stone Harbor invites one and all to make some “new discoveries” at the Art & Music Weekend, taking place along 96th Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 9 and Sun., Oct. 10.
Created with the intention to foster community and nurture local arts, The Art & Music Weekend will showcase some local musicians and artists up and down the main line of Stone Harbor’s charming shopping district.
As visitors stroll 96th Street, solo musicians and groups will fill the air with a range of musical offerings, from jazz saxophone to contemporary standards.
Adding to the music will be displays from the region’s most renowned and up-and-coming local artists including watercolorists, sculptors, oil painters, potters and carvers.
Visitors will enjoy chances to meet and view the works of Doris Zogas, Dale Hearon, Elisabeth Olver, Peg Dittmar, Christine Peck, Beth Kantor and Mike Sperlak.
In addition, Ocean Galleries will host the Disney Fine Art collection Saturday, October 9 through Monday, Oct. 11.
The highlight of the exhibition is a “Disney Fine Art LIVE!” show by renowned and beloved Disney performance artist Trevor Carlton, who will be performing at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 9 at the Stone Harbor,gallery.
The exhibition features signature Disney artwork by numerous artists and is a collection of interpretive, artist inspired work derived from Disney’s classic characters and stories.
In celebration of the exhibition, Ocean Galleries will host gallery receptions from 7-10 p.m. on Sat., Oct, 9 and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 10. Ocean Galleries is located at 9618 Third Avenue.
Beacon Art Gallery (9412 Second Avenue) and Peter McPhee Fine Arts (9416 Second Avenue) will have artists (weather permitting) painting outside their galleries throughout the weekend.
