CAPE MAY— The Cape May Artists Cooperative Gallery will host “Second Sunday” on July 11 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 pm at its home in the West End Garage, 484 West Perry Street.
“Second Sunday” features local artists Susan Ross, Cindy Mahoney Crawford and Jody Swope. The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery is a group of twenty-eight local artists who have joined together to showcase and sell their work as well as educate the public about their art.
July’s featured artists as well as other artists from the Cooperative will be on hand to meet the public and discuss their work. Light refreshments will be served.
Susan Ross fell in love with clay the first time she tried to make a pot. She set up her first studio in Cape May over 30 years ago. After learning the basics on her own, she wanted some formal experience with clay.
Cindy Mahoney Crawford began making jewelry about 14 years ago. At the time she was in college and taking drawing/printmaking/painting classes but wanted to try a different medium, something that was easily portable and didn’t take up too much space. Cindy puts a lot of thought into creating her jewelry. Cindy currently teaches art at West Cape May Elementary School and also teaches for the Center for Community Arts.
Jody Swope calls herself a mixed media artist. She is well known for her distinctive style of folk art and “Mini World” constructions. Her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas, winning numerous awards. She currently lectures and teaches several art classes for adults in Cape May County.
In 2005, Jody and her husband moved to their present home on the Delaware Bay, fulfilling her lifelong dream of living by the sea and doing her artwork full time.
According to Cooperative manager Diane Cutshall, “We present Second Sundays so the community can meet our artists and learn about their work. These Second Sundays have encouraged our members to stretch themselves and it’s been great to see how the artists’ work has evolved and their visions have grown since the Cooperative opened.”
The Artists Cooperative Gallery located is now open daily from 10 – 6 pm. Call 609-770-8261 for information.
