Artists Create Unique Pop-Up Gallery to Raise Money

ERMA – Artists will take over House of Print, a graphic design and print production studio, for a two-day Access to Art event on April 4-5 that will highlight local talent and raise money for art programs at the Lower Cape May Regional School district.
Carl Suit, owner of House of Print, was working on an art gallery event when he was inspired to reach out to LCMR Superintendent Chris Kobik after hearing of Cape May’s bid to withdraw from or dissolve the Lower Cape May Regional School District.
“I wanted to learn first-hand about the level of education that the students were currently receiving,” said Suit. “What I found was a dedicated team of teachers and administrators that were providing top-notch education.”
In particular interest to Suit was the artistic programs.
Suit said that as the owner of a graphic design firm that frequently works with artists and designers, he knew his business could provide the students real-world experience in a local setting.
“I also wanted to show them that art, whether it is graphic design, fine art, photography or other talents, can have career applications,” Suit said.
Suit said he wanted to create a pop-up gallery that would be a learning experience for the art students and a showcase for professional artists.
The participating artists will be donating a portion of their sales to LCMR art programs, and LCMR student work will also be on display.
“Lower Cape May Regional School District is excited to be involved in new business partnerships like this one with the House of Print,” said Kobik. “Carl Suit and his staff are taking the time to help build real-world learning connections for students. This event is giving our students an opportunity to interact with other artists in the field and begin to build their own professional relationships.”
Kobik said that House of Print was one of the first businesses to join the Lower Cape May Regional Education Foundation.
“The foundation’s mission is to support projects like this that help students transition to successful careers,” Kobik noted.
“Nothing brings people together like art,” said Suit. “Hopefully people will take the opportunity to come out to the pop-up gallery, learn about the programs like I did and view some amazing talent. You’ll also have the opportunity to own a one-of-a-kind piece with the knowledge that you are supporting art education.”
Suit added that he hopes that if visitors don’t walk away with a piece of art, they will at least gain a new perspective on the art education at LCMR, one facet of the school’s curriculum.
“Art is accessible to anyone. Whether you are just viewing and enjoying it, or your learning about it, or you are creating it,” said Suit.

Access to Art will be held at House of Print, located at 1288 Hornet Road in the Cape May County Airport April 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and April 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The team at House of Print will transform production facility of the graphic design firm into a pop-up gallery, an unconventional venue to display work by professional and student artists for a limited time.
Proceeds from art sales as well as limited-edition Access to Art t-shirts, prints and stickers will be donated to the Lower Cape May Regional School District’s art programs.
