Art on Asbury” Presents Tribute to Judge’s Show in January

Ocean City —The Ocean City Fine Arts League announces a tribute show featuring Lance Balderson, Ruth Formica, Phyllis London, Amy Sullivan, Jodi Wiker & Leonard Wilkinson. These accomplished artists generously donated their time to judge the “Art on Asbury” shows throughout 2013, along with other judges, Kira Campo, Victoria Clark, Joyce Hagen, and Rodie O’Rourke.
Meet these acclaimed artists who support the local art community at the “Meet the Artist” reception on Friday, January 10 from 6pm-7:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public and the show runs through the end of January. All artwork is for sale.
Artist, Lance Balderson, whose residence and studio is located in Ocean View, New Jersey has his paintings in permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Columbia University School of Law and the Woodmere Art Museum. His paintings have also been purchased by over 450 clients worldwide and hang in many galleries throughout the region. He has developed a style that ranges from the cubist characteristics of Abstract expressionism to the more subtle coloristic forms of Impressionism and incorporates layers of color with overlapping shapes and forms that reference his previous architectural career. Mr. Balderson also has a solo exhibition at the Holtzman Gallery in Ventnor and an opening reception on Saturday, January 18. The show runs through February.
Artist Ruth Formica, whose studio is located on Sampson Street in Philadelphia, holds a CFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and teaches at the Barn Studio of Art in Millville. Her artwork is represented in the Cerulean Gallery in Philadelphia. She has won many awards including an award for Chinese painting at the Fleisher in Philadelphia, as well as best in show at the Hammonton Arts Center. She paints improvisational still-life paintings using real objects and her imagination.
Artist Phyllis London, from Egg Harbor Township, NJ is largely self-taught. Her work hangs in private, public and corporate collections across the country. Throughout her career, she has been published in numerous magazines and has earned many awards and commendations. She is a Signature Artist Member of the Noyes Museum of Art.
Artist Amy Sullivan is a graduate of Richard Stockton College with a degree in Arts Management and a minor in painting. She spent most of her early career running nonprofit arts organizations. In November 2013, she opened Dwell: An Artist Space in Northfield with her business partner, Ray Nunzi. Dwell offers fine art instruction for youth and adults as well as a co-op studio for artists working in all media. Together, they have established a place where artists of all ages and media can create, learn and inspire one another.
Artist Jodi Wiker, is a graduate from Pennsylvania State University with a masters from Tyler School of Art. She specializes in printmaking and abstract art. She holds art classes at her studio in Medford Lakes.
Artist Leonard Wilkinson was born and raised in the Oranges, New Jersey and currently resides in Atlantic County, NJ, He attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, Parsons School of Design and the Arts Student League in New York. His artwork is currently on display at the Noyes Art Garage in Atlantic City in the African American Heritage Gallery, Markeim Arts Center in Haddonfield , the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts in Millville, and many other locations throughout NJ. As a portrait artist he primarily works in pen and Ink (stipple), pastel, watercolor and acrylic.
Visit the “Art on Asbury” Gallery this January and see some of the newest artwork of these acclaimed artist and help support your local art community. All artwork is for sale. The Gallery is located at 608 Asbury Avenue in Ocean City and is open Friday & Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday from 10am-1:30pm.
The Ocean City Fine Arts League is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness of the arts and art community. Comprised of local artists and art lovers, the “Art on Asbury” Gallery showcases watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, photography, pottery, textiles, jewelry and sculptures- all made by local artists.
