Angelus Chorus of Court House Begins Fall Season

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — The Angelus Chorus of Cape May Court House begins its Christmas repertoire this Mon. evening, 7:00 p.m., in the Middle Township High School choral rehearsal classroom (beside the Performing Arts Center). The 65-voice group has been singing together for nearly 50 years. New members are always welcome. Although auditions are not required, the ability to carry a tune is necessary. Music reading is helpful, but inexperienced singers will be seated among those that can help learn the music.
Richard Stanislaw is the Director. He is the recently retired President/CEO of Ocean City Tabernacle and holds a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of Illinois. In addition to the Angelus Chorus, he is on the editorial board of the American Choral Directors Association’s magazine, the Choral Journal. He has lectured at Richard Stockton College. Before coming to Ocean City, he was Professor of Music in three different Universities. Accompanist is Cape May Baptist Church organist Ruth Fritsch and retired music teachers Edie Ludlam is the Assistant Conductor.
The Angelus Chorus repertoire includes secular seasonal music and religious Christmas music—ranging from “We Need a Little Christmas” (from the Broadway show, Mame) to “Gloria” (from Mozart’s Twelfth Mass). The contemporary carol, “Ring the Bells,” a bluesy arrangement of “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” and even a vocal rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” are also included.
Two large concerts—Dec. 13 at Ocean City Tabernacle and Dec. 16 in Cape May Convention Center—along with four run-out concerts complete the performance season.
