The Angelus Chorus is comprised of about 50 singers from communities throughout the South Jersey shore area.
Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from September through May in the choral room of the Middle Township High School. Anyone who loves to sing is welcome to join the group.
The Chorus performs a variety of choral literature; its repertoire ranges from classical to con-temporary and from sacred to secular. It regularly performs for various church groups and senior living centers throughout the county and participates in a choral festival each spring at the Ocean City Tabernacle.
Each December it performs a major holiday concert at the Tabernacle, and in May the Chorus sponsors a charity concert at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center to benefit a local com-munity organization or project. It has also performed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.
On May 3, Angelus Chorus will hold its annual charity concert for the benefit of Project Lifesaver in partnership with the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department. In 2008, Volunteers in Medicine was the beneficiary of the May charity concert.
Richard Stanislaw, President and CEO of Ocean City Tabernacle, is the music director of Angelus Chorus.
He holds a doctorate in Choral Musicology from the University of Illinois, with post-doctoral work at Columbia University. He also holds degrees in music from Temple University and Philadel-phia Biblical University.
Stanislaw has published extensively in both scholarly journals and popular writing, and he has both taught and served as academic vice president at the university level. In 2008 he was named Ocean City’s Citizen of the Year.
