COURT HOUSE – Woody Allen called it “a wonderful movie about a great artist, one of the great artists in the field of magic.” “You will be wowed,” added Scott A. Rosenberg of AM New York, and the New York Post’ s Lou Lumenick said “watching this magician’s hands at work with a deck of cards is positively mesmerizing.”
Local audiences will be given a rare opportunity to see what they’ve been talking about in New York City and other big-time film venues when the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township , in conjunction with ProMedia Advertising of Middle Township, presents on its big screen the movie “Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Memoirs of Ricky Jay.” The showing will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 27 as part of the PAC’s Monday Night At The Movies series.
The film centers on Brooklyn born Ricky Jay, a best-selling author, historian and magician who entered the world of legerdemain when he was four years old and was encouraged by his grandfather, an amateur magician. It weaves together stunning footage from his one-man shows and TV appearances with Steve Martin and Dinah Shore, and gives viewers an insight into the world of magic and its history.
Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC, said the movie is part of a series designed to present entertaining and educational films not usually shown in this area and on a big screen in a comfortable state-of-the-art theater. The series runs into May.
Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at the box office or reserved by calling 463-1924. The Performing Arts Center is situated at 212 Bayberry Drive, Court House, one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. There is free parking on the premises.
