52nd Annual Stone Harbor Arts & Crafts Festival to Be Held Aug. 2

By Press Release

STONE HARBOR — The 52nd Annual Stone Harbor Art & Crafts Festival will be held Aug. 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Over 200 artisans from more than 12 states will be displaying their hand-crafted work. The Festival is nationally ranked event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Stone Harbor each year. Now in our 52nd year, Stone Harbor proves to deliver exceptional quality of experience in an unparalleled setting. Our goal is to offer each artist and each patron a unique experience, showcasing the highest quality and diversity of artistry with an unmatched, beautiful seashore backdrop. The Festival is held on the Recreation Fields at 80th Street directly across from the beach.
The Borough of Stone Harbor encourages green living practices in our community by promoting recycling, discouraging wastefulness and showcasing the natural setting of Stone Harbor. We salute our artisans whom are using techniques or materials that are friendly to our earth. We also support use of organic, natural, sustainable, reclaimed or recycled materials or fibers in their work; non-toxic, non-polluting materials are safer and healthier than traditional ones. We encourage artists to use renewable energy powered by solar, wind, and water during production.
So to practice what we preach, we have enlisted the help of the AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors and Ocean Spray, in conjunction with the ACUA (Atlantic County Utilities Authority), to teach children and adults how to construct a rain barrel and learn of the advantages of rain water harvesting. Our visitors can also paint their own personal artwork on the barrels as their contribution to water conservation.
Stone Harbor is also proud to welcome some of our finest local vendors of our award winning businesses from the Stone Harbor Farmer’s Market in The Festival as well. The weekly Farmer’s Market is held every Sun. 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Water Tower Plaza on Second Avenue.
In addition to the artisans, there is a food court, vendors from our Farmers Market, and a new addition, The Courtyard. The Courtyard will encompass not only a picnic area, but include free children’s art stations hosted by the Stone Harbor Recreation Department and hour long instructional painting sessions for children and adults by ‘Artist on the Rocks’. Renowned sand sculptor, John Gruber, will be demonstrating the art of sand sculpting with a surprise design that is intriguing to all ages. The children will also have an opportunity to use their imaginations to build their own sand sculpture!
Admission is free to the Festival and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of our complimentary shuttle service. There are five designated stops around Stone Harbor and one in Avalon.
