3rd Annual ‘Reeds & Seeds’ Watermelon Party to Be Held Aug. 19

STONE HARBOR — The Reeds at Shelter Haven, Stone Harbor’s all-new luxury boutique hotel resort, will host their 3rd annual Reeds ‘n Seeds Watermelon Party on Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Reeds’ Water Star Grille.
Water Star Grille is located at The Reeds at Shelter Haven, 9061 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ. The event will be held rain or shine – in the event of rain, the event will move inside to the Sweet Grass Ballroom.
This annual event commemorates the original watermelon party that was hosted by the hotel’s predecessor, the Shelter Haven Hotel, 102 years ago on August 23, 1912, to celebrate its grand opening.
This year’s “crowning” event will once again be the watermelon eating contest, with dozens of children of all ages (and adults too, based on popular demand) competing for prizes – including gift cards for Buckets (a new eatery located next door) and The Reeds.
A crown/tiara and the title of 2014 Reeds & Seeds King & Queen goes to the boy and girl who best answer the question: “Why would I like to be The Reeds King or Queen?” The day will also include live music, a magician performing from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., watermelon treats and drinks, crafts, face painting, games such as watermelon bowling and more. Adults can get in on the fun too, with special watermelon cocktails on the Water Star lunch menu as well as a watermelon and feta salad, available during lunch service immediately following the Reeds ‘n Seeds event.
Reeds ’n Seeds is becoming a Stone Harbor tradition for many families as it grows in attendance from year to year. “This event is such a unique family festival that we are proud to be a part of,” explained Director of Sales Julie Yeager. “We are anticipating our biggest turnout yet,” she added.
