WOODBINE – The Cape May County Library will present a program Traditions in Transition: The African American Male Poet at the Woodbine Branch, 800 Monroe Street, Woodbine, Feb. 6, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Rediscover Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906), Langston Hughes (1902-1967), Amiri Baraka (1934-2014) and Haki Madhubuti (1942- ) through biographies and poetry juxtaposed with contemporary poetry by local poets, LosChil and Anthony George II.
LosChil is known and sought after for his insightful, inspirational, and observational poetry. He performs throughout the tri-state area. He is the leader of a youth event, JAM, at Macedonia Baptist Church held on various Friday evenings. He was featured in the Chase Arts’ production of “Messages from Men” which was presented in Cape May, Atlantic City and Philadelphia.
Anthony is a theater major at Stockton University and was the protagonist in the United States premier of the Greek play, at Stockton. He has also performed in the Chase Arts’ production, “the Colored Museum” and in all of the productions of “Messages from Men’. He is well known for his own work as a poet and performs at various poetry jams throughout the shore area.
Mayor Pikolycky added, “I encourage people to come to this reading as so many did last year when our local poet Safiyah Givens presented here back in Marcg”
