To the Editor:
Congressman Van Drew has labeled me as one of the “Radical Left with unhinging protests and vicious attacks.” The reality is that I am a constituent. I am one of 30 who peacefully gathered at his office last week to voice our frustration with his support of Trump’s and Musk’s desire to attack the U.S. Constitution and our democratic government and replace it with a dictatorship.
I’m alarmed. I am not alone in this fear. I worry for my young adult son, who is a scientist using his degree in molecular genetics to fight the war against cancer. If NIH funding is cut, he’ll have to take his talents to a new job in a distant country. The loss will be mine on a personal level, but the whole country loses when its best and brightest must leave.
This and other fears brought me to Van Drew’s office last week. I joined my fellow retirees (mostly), whose median age was around 70 years. We respectfully asked for a town hall. We were met with four police cars. Of course, we never laid eyes on the congressman.
Fellow citizens! Please keep up the pressure. Call, write letters, and show up at Van Drew’s office. It is time for “We The People” to save our democracy before it is too late.
