OCEAN CITY – A juvenile suspected in a stabbing on the boardwalk over the Memorial Day weekend was arrested in Pleasantville on Tuesday, June 4, with the help of the Hamilton Township and Pleasantville police departments.
The juvenile is thought to be responsible for the stabbing of a 15-year-old victim on Saturday, May 25, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Ocean City Police Chief Bill Campbell said in a joint press release announcing the arrest.
On that date at around 9:10 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault on the Ocean City boardwalk. Police determined that a group of juveniles engaged in a fight, resulting in a juvenile’s sustaining lacerations and a stab wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Division, and treated for his injuries.
An investigation initiated by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean City Police Department into the identity of the assailant included witness interviews, surveillance footage review and other investigative analysis. As a result, police identified the juvenile suspect, whose name is being withheld.
The suspect was located and taken into custody within the City of Pleasantville and has been charged as a juvenile delinquent with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree possession of a weapon. The suspect was lodged in a juvenile detention facility pending court proceedings.
