Indictments Filed, Sept. 24

Readers are reminded that not only are all individuals listed below presumed innocent unless proven guilty, there may also be multiple individuals who share the same name, even in the same town.

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 15 indictments Sept. 24. 

The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.  A “certain person” charge can be brought against individuals whose previous convictions bar them from having weapons. 

Joseph S. Weirman faces a four-count indictment, three third-degree counts for criminal restraint, aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, and a count for certain person, possession of a knife, in the fourth degree. Weirman was convicted in 2005 in Camden County of intent to distribute a CDS within 1,000 feet of a school.

Ian Pellicane was indicted on a single count of fourth-degree criminal mischief related to an incident in Sea Isle City in July.

Jayce R. Becotte was named in a three-count indictment, with two counts for aggravated assault, in both the second and third degrees, along with criminal restraint in the third degree.

David McCartney was indicted for possession of a CDS, methamphetamine, and distribution of a CDS, both in the third degree.

Marcia L. Schoff faces two counts of possession of a CDS, cocaine and alprazolam, both counts in the third degree.

James T. Smith and Joseph T. Smith were indicted together on two third-degree counts for aggravated assault and conspiracy.

Michael Hatcher faces a third-degree count for failure to make lawful disposition related to an incident in Ocean City in February.

Raymond L. Bartee Jr. was indicted for certain person in the fourth degree for possession of a knife despite his conviction in 2006 for robbery.

Ronald Scott faces three separate counts of bail jumping in the third degree. Scott failed to show on three occasions for hearings related to his arrest for possession of a CDS.

Stacy Marker was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine.

Jacob Harrison faces a single count of fourth-degree aggravated assault of a clearly identifiable health care worker in the performance of his/her duties.

Robert Federa, Robert Snow and Alexandra Scheffler were named in a nine-count indictment. They jointly face two counts of third-degree possession of a CDS, methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with two fourth-degree counts of possession of a prescription legend drug and fourth-degree distribution of drug paraphernalia. Scheffler alone faces an additional count of fourth-degree legend drug possession. Snow was named alone in three additional fourth-degree counts, for impersonation, escape and obstructing the administration of law.

The three individuals were arrested for crimes committed in Atlantic County. A shift away from the county where the crime was committed usually means there is a conflict involving one of the individuals that requires a different venue. Alexandra Scheffler was indicted in June in Cape May County for third-degree shoplifting that occurred in Atlantic County.

Esteban Puentes and James Ryba were jointly indicted on two second-degree counts for false public alarm and conspiracy.

Timothy Barrus faces a single third-degree count for theft of a 2008 Ford F350 in July in Upper Township.

Miguel A. Diaz was indicted for third-degree burglary, fourth-degree theft and third-degree fraudulent use of a credit card.
