Indictments Filed July 25

Readers are reminded that not only are all individuals listed below presumed innocent unless proven guilty, but there may also be multiple individuals who share the same name, even in the same town.

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 15 indictments July 25. 

The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.  

Raymond D. Bailey faces a six-count indictment with three counts of aggravated assault, one third degree and two fourth degree, a third-degree count for resisting arrest, and two fourth-degree counts for throwing bodily fluids and obstructing the administration of law.

Elijah A. Mabry was named in a three-count indictment for making terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, both in the third degree, along with unlawful possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. The weapon was a knife.

John S. Papale was indicted on two fourth-degree counts for obstructing the administration of law and receiving stolen property.

Maria M. Schroyer faces two fourth-degree counts for possession of prohibited weapons, large-capacity magazines and hollow-point bullets.

Phillip J. Martin was indicted on one fourth-degree count of harassment while on probation. As a result, Martin has been lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Facility since Oct. 27.

Thomas O’Connor faces a single count of third-degree possession of a CDS, amphetamine.

Kenya Brown, Sahhim Cherry and Johnika Handy each separately face two third-degree counts for theft by deception and forgery. They are jointly named in a third-degree count for conspiracy.

Lacey D. Dunne was indicted for theft of a credit card, fourth degree, and fraudulent use of a credit card, third degree.

John G. Bersani and Jaclyn Flannery were named in a two-count indictment. Bersani faces a third-degree count for escape from detention. Flannery was named in a fourth-degree count for hindering apprehension.

Mark J. Miller was indicted for assault by auto in the fourth degree for causing injury while driving under the influence.

Curtis Parker faces a third-degree shoplifting count for taking merchandise at Lowe’s valued at over $500.

Benjamin Steelman was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault, one in the second degree and one in the third degree. The indictment also included a third-degree count for making terroristic threats.

Robert Van Liew was named in a single count of fourth-degree contempt of a restraining order. He is lodged at the Correctional Facility without bail.

Jairo Cumatz was indicted on two counts, one for third-degree possession of a CDS, alprazolam, and the second for criminal trespass in the fourth degree.

James J. Orrell faces a second-degree count of unlawful possession of a weapon, a firearm, along with a third-degree count for terroristic threats.
