Hospital Wins Designation From Noted Cancer Center

By Herald Staff

Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional has become an approved radiation oncology site of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.

The Anderson Center, in Houston, is one of the nation’s leading cancer centers and partnered with Cooper University Health Care starting in 2013. The approval broadens the availability of advanced cancer care options for residents of Cape May and Atlantic counties.

The MD Anderson at Cooper Radiation Oncology suite offers advanced radiation treatment technology. Under the care of a highly specialized team of radiation oncology experts, patients will receive radiation therapy close to home that adheres to protocols established by MD Anderson in Houston.

“When we announced that Cape Regional was joining Cooper University Health Care, we made a promise to Jersey Shore communities that we would bring advanced, specialty care to the region,” said George E. Norcross III, chairman of the board of trustees of Cooper University Health Care. “[This] announcement is the first of many steps toward fulfilling that promise.”

“Having advanced cancer care close to home is important for patients and their families, and we are confident that having MD Anderson at Cooper Radiation Oncology in Cape May County will bring comfort and convenience for patients in local shore communities,” said Kevin O’Dowd, co-CEO of Cooper University Health Care.
