HERM, JR., JOSEPH R.
Joseph R. Herm, Jr., known affectionately as Joe to his wife and friends, Dad, Pop-Pop to his children and grandchildren, passed away on June 15, 2024, at the age of 86 in Rio Grande, NJ. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 28, 1937, Joe was a man whose life was defined by his friendly demeanor, a faith-filled heart, and an unwavering love for his family.
Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force before embarking on a fulfilling career as a manager in computer services with multiple companies including GE, Philco, Nasco Steel, and Day & Zimmerman. After retiring, he moved from Montgomery County, PA, to Rio Grande in 2006, where he continued to share his joy for life with all around him.
A devout member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Joe's commitment to his faith and community was evident to all who knew him. His hobbies, such as enjoying the beach, biking, boating and traveling were just a few of the pastimes through which Joe embraced the beauty of the world and the company of his friends and family.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Clare I. Herm, their four children; Michael (Patti) Herm, Timothy “Tim” (Laura) Herm, Maryanne “Missy” Halligan, and Kristi (David “Butch”) Washington; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his cousin, Paul. His legacy is further remembered by the significant imprint he left on those who were fortunate to know him. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Kitty (nee Mallee) Herm, Sr., his son-in-law, Jim Halligan, and his granddaughter Brigid Stenger.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House.
